Serving one's country through military service presents its own unique set of difficulties for service members and their families. Red Cross caseworkers serve as counselors to military personnel, helping them identify issues and resources to address personal, financial and family related problems that often arise during the course of military service. If assistance is needed beyond the scope of the Red Cross, service members are provided information and referrals to other agencies.

Much of the work of this department is truly international in scope. When civil unrest, war or natural disasters disrupt lives and tear families apart, the Red Cross is a stabilizing force, working diligently to help reunite families, exchange messages and alleviate suffering.

Like disaster service, this program is available 24 hours a day and is given without charge to the family or the service person.
